What Must Be Done  

According to a recent blog entry, the state of Florida is not in good shape, neither when it comes to the health of its citizens, nor its percentage of uninsured people in the state.  What can be done to solve this problem?  As the government moves to bailout financial institutions—and now automakers—why can’t some sort of solution be put together to help make our nation healthier? 

Appeal to the Powers That Be 

Whatever excuses we’ve been receiving up to this point, they are not good enough.  Between defense spending and the bailouts, we could have at least made sure that no child is without health care in this country.  It is a sad day indeed when the wealthiest and most prosperous of all nations has people starving n the streets and children who are unable to receive the proper care that they need to grow up healthy. 

Out of Control 

With the prices of procedures running out of control, a shortage of qualified nurses in the country as a whole, and the inability of insurance companies to actually insure those who pay for their services, something must be done before it is too late.  What is absolutely astonishing is that a country like the US could have such inconsistencies in standard health care form one state to another that they actually have to be ranked at all.  It truly speaks volumes about the situation here at home. 

Time for Change 

Hopefully, as we approach a time of change in the US we will be able to make the kinds of sweeping reform that needs to occur in order to preserve the health of our nation.  The baby boomer generation is not getting any younger, there are many young people who have grown up without any healthcare, and older disease we had once though were a thing of the past and cropping up—stronger than ever before.  The time has come to make changes in this flawed system and it must be done before time runs out.
