In Puerto Rico, SCHIP was approved by CMS as a Medicaid expansion program for children age 18 and under whose family income is less than 200 percent of the Commonwealth’s poverty level. The Puerto Rico Health Department (Health Department) administers SCHIP by contracting with health insurance organizations to provide services to qualified beneficiaries at negotiated capitation rates (premiums).
