Did you know the New Hampshire State Health Plan (NHHP) was created to provide health insurance to NH residents who are declined coverage through the private market, have a pre-qualifying condition or are otherwise eligible. The NHHP is intended generally to be the insurer of last resort for New Hampshire residents. Applicants are encouraged to seek coverage from private insurance companies before contacting the NHHP.
NHHP also provides health insurance for individuals who are entitled for certain Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) or Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) benefits. For these individuals, premiums may be payable through the federal health care tax credit program.
Free Health Insurance Advice: Short term health Insurance
Temporary or short term health insurance should be considered when a person needs health insurance for a short period of time to fill a gap in coverage. These health insurance plans do not cover pre-existing health conditions.
There is no rate increases imposed or exclusions placed for pre-existing health conditions, they are simply not covered. In addition, these plans are purchased for a certain period of time, 1 mth, 2 mths, 3 mths etc, and are not guaranteed renewable. In other words, if an individual gets diagnosed with Cancer while on a temporary health insurance plan, the insurance company is not required to renew their policy once the original block of time expires. This could put that particular person at risk for being ineligible.
Sometimes when an individual is trying to fill a gap in coverage, it may be wiser to just fork out the extra dollars for a regular health insurance plan as they are always month to month and can be cancelled at anytime.
