Health Insurance FAQ: Paramedical Exams: Required or Not?
A paramedical exam is a complete physical exam obtained by the health insurance company to certify accuracy on an individual’s health. Generally, the health insurance company will schedule a nurse to come to your home and perform the exam, including blood work and required readings, at the expense of the company. Most health insurance companies do not require paramedical exams.
Life insurance companies almost always order a paramedical exam on every applicant applying for a life insurance policy. There are some circumstances that would provoke a health insurance company to order a paramedical exam on an applicant. If an applicant has not had a physical exam or seen a doctor in over 3 then the health insurance company may order an exam.
A health insurance company may also order a paramedical exam on an applicant from a foreign country because of the incomplete or lack of health history on the applicant here in the United States. If a paramedical exam is ordered on you, make a note to sustain from eating or drinking at least 12 hours before your exam. Doing so will prevent your test results from being inaccurate helping your chances of obtaining health insurance.
