Lose your job?
Find out how COBRA can help you and your family maintain health coverage while you are out of work. COBRA Subsidy/Premium Assistance is available to help you.
If you have involuntarily lost your job with a state agency, school system, or other SHBP-covered group from September 1, 2008 to present, and were covered under SHBP at the time of the job loss, you may be entitled to elect COBRA with a 65% COBRA premium reduction (or, if already under COBRA, receive a premium reduction) effective March 1, 2009. Call (800) 554-9142 for more information.
The gap between group health insurance and individual insurance is closing. With the rising cost of health insurance for employer based plans, many companies are dropping coverage and looking for alternatives in the individual private markets. 48 million people in America, including 20% of the Georgia's population went uninsured. Most Americans don’t know that a high percentage those without health insurance have a family income of over $60,000. Are we uninsured because we can’t afford it? Or is it because we choose to spend our money in other places until we get sick?
