Voting on the health care reform has been indefinitely postponed by the key house committee. Democratic leaders were powerless in their ability to obtain enough votes from the sensible members of their own party. The session was cancelled by Commerce Committee and the House Energy because there were significant concerns about the legislation from conformist democrats who make up a large portion of seats on the board The only House panel with jurisdiction over the health care issue is The Energy and Commerce Committee and it has not finished writing its version of the reform bill.  This does not come as a very big surprise to me. I felt like we were rushing to make a decision. What are your thoughts to the postponing?

The House of Democrats are getting closer to proposing an income surcharge tax for individuals with adjusted gross income of more than $200K and married couples over $250K to help finance insurance for all those who cannot afford coverage. They have eliminated the earlier idea of implementing payroll taxes to fund the proposed health legislation. The House is preparing to have a complete inclusive health care refurbish plan by the end of this week so they can bring it up for committee votes in the near future. Democrats backed away from their aspiration of passing health care legislation by mid August due to the heightened political debate over tax increases and an anticipated new government role in supplying insurance to consumers. What are your thoughts? Should the wealthy be taxed to support the new insurance plan?

A survey on public opinion was released Tuesday stating that the majority of US families are concerned that their health care costs would significant rise if the proposed reform plan is passed. Only one in ten people believe that their families would be better off under the new idealistic insurance plan. What is your opinion?

President Obama aspires to bring down the cost of healthcare and provide medical insurance to the millions of American citizens who cannot afford coverage. He is also proposing a government run insurance plan which will compete with private insurers. Whose tax dollars are going to pay for this convenient government plan? How is this plan going to help the US out of its indefinite debt?  What type of influence will this government plan have on private insurance companies? How many more small businesses will have to close because of this plan?

There are many pros and cons associated with this new reform. I guess as a “democratic” society we will have to sit back and watch the government manipulate the way we take care of ourselves.

It is always interesting to understand where various health insurance agents work.  Some agents work for captive organizations that in some instances offer higher commission payouts and bonus’.  Is that true all you captive agents?  Others work as inside sales reps for the various carriers like, Aetna, Humana, and United HealthCare.  How is that treating you?  It seems the majority of you in this business are independent health insurance agents working for either a local GA or an FMO.  What has been your experience with this?  Please fill us in.  Comment here.
